Hi there, I’m Nancy Marshall (she/her/hers): PhD (in the field of Education); MA (in the field of Child and Youth Care); Registered Social Worker (RSW). I look forward to connecting with you!

AffirmAbility is a practice born from my deep commitment to affirming the ability of neurodivergent people to thrive in societies that are not set up for their success. AffirmAbility in Practice further affirms the ability of societies to change for the better – one community at a time.

With over 20 years of experience as a Child and Youth Worker and therapist supporting autistic and neurodivergent individuals and their families in school and community settings, my approach is:

  • strength-based
  • relational
  • emotion-focused and
  • neuroscience-aligned

I collaborate with clients to create personalized strategies that are tailored to individualized needs using neurodiversity-affirming principles and therapeutic modalities, including Internal Family Systems (IFS), polyvagal theory, and PDA-informed care for those with PDA (demand avoidant) profiles.

Mission

With the influx of information framing different ways of being in the world as “disordered”, AffirmAbility in Practice is committed to empowering neurodivergent people – and those who love and care for them – to reject harmful and false stereotypes and to break through barriers with confidence.

Communication “deficits”, “lack” of abilities, “lagging” social skills, “poor” emotional regulation (etc.) are just a few of the commonly applied labels that can deplete neurodivergent people’s sense of self-worth and confidence.

My mission is to support you in understanding how these labels are misleading and 100% false so that you and your loved ones can lead a fulfilling life.
